Health, Physical Education and Sports

Our Health, Physical Education and Sports program provides students with a variety of experiences that promote health, fitness and well being. In Health, students focus on learning about safety and strategies that minimise harms associated with particular situations or behaviours.

Programs include: Individual Schools Drug Education Strategy (Drug Education); Life Education (support program for our Health and Drug Education program); Family Life (Personal Development program) Road Safety and Water Safety.

There is a whole school focus on healthy eating awareness where students examine the factors that influence food selection and the role of nutrition on health growth and development. Our whole school Huff and Puff program is a fitness program that supports our Physical Education Program through fun activities.

Our Physical Education program in Years Prep to 2 includes P.M.P. the Perceptual Motor Program aiming to improve students’ coordination skills. The outdoor program mainly focuses on ball handling skills and the Tabloid Sports program aims to develop students’ agility, flexibility, speed, endurance, strength and fitness.

In Years 3 to 6 students participate in a special Physical Education and Sports program designed and implemented by the Southport and Stonnington Schools Sports Association. The program is unique, providing students with experiences in both traditional and other sports eg Netball; Soccer; Basketball; Cricket; Softball; Baseball; Table Tennis; Hockey; Footy; Touch Footy; Lawn Bowls and Surf Life Saving program.

Our students compete with other schools in our district at specific venues decided by the association. They are also given the opportunity to compete in District events for Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country, sometimes leading to competition at Zone and State levels.
